Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS)
Policy measure

According to APERC (2011), the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) intends to develop and implement energy efficiency standards and labelling to a wide range of energy appliances in addition to developing a market that is based on mandatory energy efficiency labelling, the Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) along with increased consumer awareness on the issue.

Implementation

The elaboration of the test procedures for energy standards and labelling was initiated in 1996. Test procedures are in place for a number of products such as refrigerators and freezers, electric motors, industrial boilers and solar thermal and photovoltaic systems. (APERC, 2011)
