Funding of Peruvian Energy Efficiency Improvement Projects
Policy measure

According to ECLAC (2010), Peru has received funding from several different international sources to fund energy efficiency improvement projects. The funding primarily derives from the IFC-World Bank as well as from the IDB and the German RWE bank.

In 2008, an investment of USD 30 million in energy efficiency projects was made by a private Peruvian bank, Banco BBVA, on behalf of IFC-World Bank through loans to firms in the productive sector. Also aiming at financing energy efficiency programmes in the productive sector, COFIDE coordinated a loan of EUR 50 million from RWE bank. In the same year, the IDB financed an energy efficiency campaign for small and medium-sized enterprises with USD 1.5 million available for three years. The executing agency was the National Environment Fund (FONAM) (ECLAC, 2010).

No identified challenges.

ECLAC (2010) emphasizes that the main outcome of getting involved with international donors was that Peru gained access to funding which it would otherwise not have had access to.
